Julian Rowe-Jones on: What happens after rhinoplasty? (Video)
Top UK Rhinoplasty Surgeon, Julian Rowe-Jones on: What happens after Rhinoplasty?
I really like my rhinoplasty patients to stay in hospital overnight, that way I can come and visit you and see you the next morning, tell you how things went and make sure you’re comfortable and everything is right for you before you go home. It also gives the nurses the chance to clean your nostrils, teach you how to look after your dressings and it also means we can give you another dose of antibiotics as well, which I think is very helpful.
Going home after Rhinoplasty
When you go home you have all the instructions you need, telling you what you should do and what you shouldn’t do and there’s always support over the phone, over email, if you have any worries you just have to get in touch with us and we will let you know what you should or shouldn’t be doing. We then see you a week later, to take the dressing off the outside of your nose. That doesn’t hurt and I’m using dissolvable stitches more and more in the nose now, that’s something I specifically like to do, so that it’s rare we actually have to take any stitches out and that’s something people are often a bit worried about. I check the inside of your nose at that stage, check your healing well and make sure that all your questions are answered and then we’ll arrange to see off at six to twelve weeks later.
Recovery after rhinoplasty
At that stage a lot of the swelling has settled, the nose will have healed and then we get a really good idea of how things are going to turn out. I’m really keen that we keep in touch, it takes about a year for everything to settle down completely, maybe even longer, 18 months and in revision cases even up to five years and I want to see you until your nose is fully healed and until we know what the final result is. A lot of places might operate on you and then say we’ll see you once more, I really don’t think that’s right. I have to say from a selfish point of view it also means I can see my long-term results and I can judge whether I got it right, whether there are things I can do better and as part of my ongoing commitment to rhinoplasty I will see patients for as long as they want with no charge.

A Rhinoplasty Testimonial
I just wanted to say it’s day two after my surgery, I have no idea what my nose looks like and even with the swelling the function of my nose has improved massively. I am really grateful and want to thank everyone for making this happen. On the day of the surgery I was so nervous, Mr Rowe-Jones was amazing!
Immediately making me feel at ease and that everything I had discussed with him was under control. Truly an amazing surgeon, and with a genuine care for his patients that goes such a long way, no wonder he has such a fantastic reputation. All this would not have happened without his team behind him so thanks to all again!
