Your guide to after-care following your nose job

The Daily Express recently reported that there has been a 78% rise of rhinoplasty consultations taking place in the UK. This might well be to do with a turbulent political climate causing people to seek their own feel good factor at home, but it’s more likely to be a combination of better access to rhinoplasty advice and increased options in elective cosmetic surgery.

In the hands of our skilled surgeons here at the Nose Clinic, your rhinoplasty will be safe, effective and natural-looking, with minimal scarring. Whether you have always been unhappy with the shape of your nose, or your nose shape has altered due to age, injury, or accident, cosmetic rhinoplasty can help.

During your consultation, Mr Julian Rowe-Jones will examine your nose with a view to assessing your surgical requirements. Your case may be best suited to a simple closed approach surgery, which involves internal nasal incisions, or if it’s a more complex case, it may benefit from an open approach. This offers the surgeon a better view of internal structures and the chance to work with greater precision.

The road to recovery following your rhinoplasty

Immediately following your surgery, your nose will be supported by a small cast, splint, or light tape dressing. Mild cases will be able to go home on the same day, but more complex cases may involve an overnight stay in hospital. Some swelling and bruising is to be expected.

For the first 1 to 2 weeks following treatment, you’ll be able to manage the pain with painkillers. It may feel like you have a heavy cold and it’s not uncommon to experience nosebleeds or some bloody discharge. Your surgeon will advise you to take 1 to 2 weeks off work, to avoid strenuous activity at the gym and to not take any flights for two weeks.

To give your nose a chance to heal, you will also be advised not to wear glasses for six weeks, nor take part in any contact sports. When you go out in the sun, you will be advised to wear sunblock as your skin in this area may be sensitive. After 8 to 12 weeks, your nose will be fully healed and you should have renewed confidence in your appearance.
